Back-to-School Marathon Fundraiser for The Frida Cinema

Have this article read to you, listen to it like a podcast

Join OCSA students in supporting our community home for movies, The Frida Cinema!

Since opening in 2014, Downtown Santa Ana’s non-profit art house The Frida Cinema has served as a home-away-from-home for so many OCSA students.  Dozens of us have volunteered there, many of us have had our films projected there, and of course so many of us have spent hours catching amazing and eclectic films on their screens. We can’t imagine our community without it.

Over the last couple of years, The Frida has been slammed with the back-to-back challenges of the COVID pandemic — which caused it to have to close its doors for a year and a half — and recent street construction which has cut it off from valuable road and foot traffic for months.  Their amazing programming continues, but so much of their pre-pandemic growth and momentum have taken a hit — and we OCSA students want to help!

Here’s What We’re Doing
On Saturday, August 13th, we invite fellow fans of The Frida Cinema to sign up for a special movie marathon we’re calling Back To School Marathon in Support of The Frida Cinema!  Starting at 12pm, we’ll be taking a look at four decades’ worth of high school living by watching five of our favorite high school films: Clueless (1995), Easy A (2010), The Craft (1996), Mean Girls (2004), and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)!

Here’s What We Need YOU To Do!

This is a fundraising marathon — and fundraising marathoners need sponsors!  The intrepid marathoners who will be participating in this ten-hour event are doing so in the hopes that you’ll reward their philanthropic efforts by supporting our movie-watching endurance with a donation! Your sponsorships will not only directly support our beloved Frida Cinema, but will also provide marathoners with opportunities to earn perks and prizes, from soft drinks, snacks, and other goodies, to annual Film Club memberships and more!  OR — you could sign up to be a marathoner!

All donations are 100% tax-deductible!  The Frida Cinema is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Click on Marathoners in the left column for leaderboard of students who have signed on to be a fundraising Marathoner of this event. While each of us marathoners is committed to reaching $100 in sponsorships, we are all pushing to raise as much as we can!  Please donate whatever you can!
$10,000 Matching Challenge!

Here’s something we’re extra excited about!  One of our OCSA parents has committed to donate $10,000 to The Frida — but we have to hit $10,000 in donations to make it happen!
