Come on out this Friday for Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, an animated drama based on her critically-acclaimed graphic novel and screening in celebration of its 15th anniversary!
In an airport in France, Marjane “Marji” Satrapi reflects on her childhood as an observant and precocious young girl during Iran’s 1979 revolution. Though initially hopeful, Marji and her family quickly become disillusioned as the new regime continues to restrict social freedoms, especially for women. Marji grows up outspoken and rebellious, wearing unorthodox denim jackets and listening to Western punk rock with her friends, embarking on a life journey that is powerful and enthralling to see
Depicting Satrapi’s coming-of-age story in moving detail, Persepolis tied for the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
Persepolis screens Friday, Nov 18th.
