Our second July Volunteer of the Month is Eden Byer, who has selected Spike Lee’s biting satire Bamboozled as her Volunteer of the Month pick!

TV producer Pierre Delacroix becomes frustrated when network brass reject his sitcom idea. Hoping to get fired, Delacroix pitches the worst idea he can think of: a 21st century minstrel show. The network not only airs it, but it becomes a smash hit, with audiences across the nation emulating the racist stereotypes it purports to satirize. Shocked by the success of the show, Delacroix finds himself faced with the excruciating decision of standing by his greatest success or stopping the monster he has unleashed.

Controversial at the time of its release, Bamboozled has since then been reassessed as one of Lee’s finest films as well as selected for preservation by the United States Library of Congress.
