On Thursday, July 25th, we are thrilled to partner with Art House Convergence to herald the return of Art House Theater Day (AHTD), a nationwide event where exhibitors and audiences alike come together to celebrate all the contributions that art house theaters and independent film make to our cultural landscape: ambitious and innovative art that provokes, challenges, entertains, and inspires.

This Art House Theater Day will premiere of the 40th Anniversary high definition restoration of James Cameron’s The Terminator. The film’s producer, Gale Anne Hurd, shared: “Knowing that many people have never seen the film, or missed out on seeing it on the silver screen, I couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate The Terminator’s 40th Anniversary with its return to cinemas on Art House Theater Day. And for those of you who‘ve watched the film on the big screen previously, thank you — I hope you’ll enjoy the nostalgic experience of seeing it again!”

Included with The Terminator will be a new, pre-recorded AHC-exclusive Q&A between Cameron and Hurd on the film’s indie roots, and the critical importance of art house theaters.

But wait — was the 1984 classic really an independent film? As Hurd adds, “People may wonder if The Terminator is truly an indie film. As the film’s producer, I can assure you it is. Jim Cameron and I made the film for $6.4 million, which included a completion bond and a 10% contingency. We had a variety of co-financiers, pre-sold rights and our distribution was through Orion Pictures rather than a major studio – the very definition of an indie film, both then and now!”

We thank our community of film lovers for all their support. See you this Art House Theater Day!
