Our Surrealist Animation series continues with A Scanner Darkly, Richard Linklater’s animated Philip K. Dick adaptation.
Set in a near-future dystopia, the film follows undercover cop Bob Arctor (played by Keanu Reeves) as he infiltrates a group of drug users addicted to a powerful substance called Substance D. As Arctor’s addiction deepens, the line between his identity and his alter ego blurs, leading to a surreal and paranoid descent into madness.
