Candlelit salons. Blood-soaked battlefields. Icy corridors of fate. Enter the world of Stanley Kubrick’sBarry Lyndon (1975) returning to The Frida Cinema for its 50th anniversary in a brand new 4K restoration!

Adapted from the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, Barry Lyndon charts the rise and fall of Redmond Barry (Ryan O’Neal), a penniless Irish rogue who schemes his way into 18th-century aristocracy—only to find that elegance, power, and wealth offer no refuge from the cruelty of fate. Kubrick renders this tragic picaresque with a painter’s eye, using natural light, period-accurate lenses, and stunning classical compositions to create what may be the most beautiful film ever made.

Critically misunderstood on its release but now hailed as a masterpiece, Barry Lyndon remains one of Kubrick’s boldest achievements: a work of immaculate control about a man who has none.
