Our friends at Flickrhappy return Sunday, September 8th at 4PM for a special screening of Stephen Herek’s 1991 comedy cult classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s DeadA favorite of many a 90’s teen, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead will followed by an in-person Q&A with the film’s hilarious slacker Kenny, actor Keith Coogan!

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is a dark comedy that follows a group of siblings left to their own devices after their tyrannical babysitter suddenly dies. The film stars Christina Applegate as Sue Ellen Crandell, the oldest sibling, who steps up to manage the household and ends up working a corporate job to keep her siblings fed. As Sue Ellen navigates the challenges of adult responsibilities, she learns to balance work, her teenage life, and a budding romance, all while keeping the death of the babysitter a secret.  The film became a cult classic for its blend of dark humor, teenage rebellion, and its satirical take on the adult world. Applegate’s performance as a teenager suddenly thrust into the role of breadwinner was widely praised, and the film’s memorable one-liners, like “I’m right on top of that, Rose!”, have become part of pop culture. A sleeper hit that gained popularity with when it hit VHS, the film quickly became a generational favorite. Praised as a “comedy of wit and intelligence” by Time Out, the magazine also singled out Applegate and Keith Coogan’s performances for praise.

After the film, join us in welcoming actor Keith Coogan for an in-person Q&A moderated by Zach Arnold of thezacharnold.comFondly remembered for his role as slacker Kenny in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Coogan also appeared in Adventures in Babysitting, Toy Soldiers, and Disney’s The Fox and the Hound.
