Rebeladas (Rebelled)
(International Feature, Spain)
8 March. The world mobilises to raise its voice against sexist violence. In Mexico, a group of women meet again to tell their story: at the end of the 1970s, they create the Colectivo Cine Mujer (Women’s Cinema Collective), making films for ten years as political activists.
Marked by the Revolution of 1968 and the second wave of feminism, these pioneers witnessed how the issues they addressed 40 years ago remain unresolved. They learned cinema by making films. They often held meetings while looking after their children, laying the foundations of a feminist cinema from theory but also from intuition: for many it was the first time in everything, in cinema and also in becoming aware of their womanhood. Gender violence, rape, feminicide, clandestine abortions, discrimination in the workplace, issues that are still topical and which were addressed by these filmmakers.
