This year’s Academy Award winner for Best International Feature Film, Walter Salles’ Brazilian film I’m Still Here comes to The Frida for a one-week engagement.
Adapted from Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s 2015 memoir of the same name, I’m Still Here chronicles the life of Eunice Paiva, portrayed by Fernanda Torres in a powerful Academy Award-nominated performance, as she searches for her husband, Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello), a dissident politician who disappeared during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the 1970s. Eunice’s journey from a housewife to a human rights activist is depicted against the backdrop of political turmoil, highlighting her resilience and the impact on her family. The film received both critical acclaim and commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Brazilian film since the COVID-19 pandemic.
