In addition to our usual discounted merch, movie posters, blu rays/DVDs, etc this year we’ve invited a bunch of rad physical media vendors to set up shop in our parklet, lobby, and auditorium so you can shop vinyl records, clothes, blu rays, movie memorabilia, VHS, books, and so much more!

It’s all going down on 4/20 from 12:00PM-4:00PM, so make sure to stop by and snag some finds before our screenings of True Stories and Licorice Pizza!

The third film in our Andrei Tarkovsky Retrospective is Ivan’s Childhood, Tarkovsky’s stunning feature debut.

Set during World War II, the film follows Ivan, a young boy who has been orphaned by the war and becomes a scout for the Soviet army. As he navigates the horrors of war, his childhood innocence clashes with the brutality surrounding him, creating a haunting portrait of loss, survival, and the effects of violence on the human soul.

A small but growing Texas town, filled with strange and musical characters, celebrates its sesquicentennial and converge on a local parade and talent show.

Directed by and starring David Byrne of Talking Heads, True Stories is a borderline-experimental film that has gradually gained recognition as a cult classic over the years. Its reputation, while not as widely known as some major mainstream films of the era, has steadily grown, particularly for its quirky blend of humor and social commentary. Oh…and did we mention it has an amazing soundtrack?

Join us at The Frida Cinema for a special run of Selena, celebrating the legendary life and music of Selena Quintanilla in honor of her birthday on April 16th.

Directed by Gregory Nava, Selena tells the story of the Queen of Tejano music, from her early years growing up in Texas to her rise to stardom and tragic, untimely death. The film beautifully portrays Selena’s determination, talent, and her unwavering connection to her family, particularly her father (Edward James Olmos), who pushed her to reach her full potential.

Our 4/20 Weekend keeps on groovin with Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2021 coming-of-age dramedy Licorice Pizza!

The story follows Gary Valentine and Alana Kane, two young people growing up, running around, and going through the treacherous navigation of first love in the San Fernando Valley in 1973.

Licorice Pizza was hailed as one of the best films of 2021. It earned a number of nominations and awards, including three Academy Award nominations (Best Picture, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and Best Original Screenplay). Critics praised its direction, screenplay, and the performances of its leads, Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman. The film’s blend of humor, charm, awesome soundtrack, and tender moments stood out and was exactly what film fans wanted post-Pandemic lockdown.
