Fennessey Fest keeps on going with Robert Altman’s 1973 classic The Long Goodbye!
This stylish and unconventional take on the classic detective story features the legendary Elliott Gould as Philip Marlowe, a private investigator with a laid-back demeanor navigating a complex web of intrigue and deception in 1970s Los Angeles.
With its sharp dialogue, stunning cinematography, and a haunting score by John Williams, The Long Goodbye offers a fresh and captivating spin on Raymond Chandler’s timeless character. As Marlowe gets drawn into a case involving a missing friend and a mysterious woman, you’ll be immersed in a world of twists, turns, and unforgettable moments that define the era.
Fennessey Fest is a week-long guest programming takeover from the mind of Sean Fennessey (Head of Content at The Ringer, Host of The Big Picture, and frequent guest on The Rewatchables). We gave him a prompt for four different films: One of his “all-timers” (The Long Goodbye), his favorite cult film (The Big Lebowski), a movie that he thinks needs a re-examination (Under The Silver Lake), and a movie he loved from his childhood (Who Framed Roger Rabbit). These four films (consciously or unconsciously) together yielded a very specific series theme: LA-set neo-noirs. Before each screening, there will be an exclusive introduction pre-recorded by Mr. Fennessey, with the exception of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which will have an in-person introduction as well as a meet-and-greet after the screening!
