Paths of Glory

Our Kubrick Christmas series marches along with Paths of Glory, the director’s 1957 anti-war drama!

The story follows Colonel Dax, portrayed by Kirk Douglas, a principled French officer who is ordered to lead his men in a suicidal assault on an impregnable German position known as the “Anthill.” When the attack fails, the enraged generals scapegoat three soldiers, putting them on trial for cowardice to cover up their own incompetence. As Dax defends the men in a farcical court-martial, the film exposes the callous indifference of the military hierarchy and the brutal realities of war.

The Artist and the Astronaut: Presented by Floral Park Neighborhood Association

The Artist and The Astronaut is the story of two people on seemingly divergent life paths who were affected and profoundly changed by the sociopolitical events and trends of the 1960s and 1970s.  Highlighted by the simultaneous struggle for peace and equal rights with the greatest human challenge of all time – to reach for the stars – this film offers a surprising, inspiring and deeply touching narrative of true Americana seen through the life intersections of Apollo/Skylab astronaut Gerald P. “Jerry” Carr and renowned artist Pat Musick.

Y2K

Y2K, directed by Kyle Mooney, is a comedic romp through the chaos and absurdity of the turn-of-the-millennium panic.

Set on New Year’s Eve 1999, the film follows two slacker friends, played by Jaeden Martell and Mason Gooding, who find themselves in the middle of a wild house party as they try to save their hacker friend (Rachel Zegler) from the havoc she inadvertently unleashed on the world’s computer systems. As midnight approaches and Y2K hysteria peaks, the trio faces hilarious mishaps, bizarre party antics, and unexpected revelations, all while attempting to prevent a seemingly catastrophic meltdown.
