The Legend of Ochi

A24 invites you to experience The Legend Of Ochi, a world where mysterious creatures, myths, and adventures await!

In a remote village on the island of Carpathia, a shy farm girl named Yuri is raised to fear an elusive animal species known as ochi. But when Yuri discovers a wounded baby ochi has been left behind, she escapes on a quest to bring him home.

This is a see-it-on-the-biggest-screen-you-can-find-and-bring-the-whole-family kind of movie. Every frame is a painting. Every moment pulses with emotion. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll even get to see another great Willem Dafoe performance! Fans of old school Amblin, Jim Henson, and Studio Ghibli will have a great time.

Ochi is your new best friend and you will love him!

Princess Mononoke (Subtitled)

Hayao Miyazaki’s sweeping eco-fantasy Princess Mononoke returns to the big screen like never before in a breathtaking new 4K restoration!

A towering achievement of animation, Princess Mononoke is epic in scope, intimate in emotion, and more urgent now than ever. First released in 1997, it remains a defining work of Studio Ghibli’s legacy and a masterclass in mythmaking.

Set in a richly imagined world where nature gods, demons, and humans collide, the film follows Ashitaka, a cursed prince caught in the escalating war between industrial expansion and the wild forces fighting to survive. At its center is San—Mononoke herself—a fierce, feral warrior raised by wolves, locked in battle with Lady Eboshi, the iron-willed leader of a mining town encroaching on sacred forest lands.

This screening will be presented in the film’s original Japanese language with English subtitles.

X + Pearl

Next up in our A24orror series is a familiar double feature to fans of The Frida Cinema–Ti West’s X and its prequel Pearl!

In X, a group of filmmakers sets out to make an adult film in rural Texas, only to encounter the terrifying and unpredictable wrath of the elderly couple who own the property. What begins as a somewhat playful, low-budget production soon becomes a nightmarish struggle for survival, as the film takes on themes of aging, exploitation, and the dangerous allure of indulgence. Mia Goth, in a standout performance, brings an unsettling complexity to the film, playing both the innocent starlet and the crazed, murderous antagonist. X is equal parts slasher and grindhouse homage, but with a layer of social commentary about the exploitation of youth and beauty.

Then, we jump into Pearl, a haunting prequel that digs deep into the backstory of Pearl, the character played by Mia Goth in X. Set in 1918, Pearl is a young woman with big dreams of becoming a star, but she’s trapped in a life of caregiving and oppressive isolation on her family’s farm. Her growing frustration and desire to break free from the constraints of her small, rural life drive her into darker, more violent territory. Pearl is an almost operatic exploration of ambition, madness, and the disillusionment that comes with chasing a dream at any cost. Goth’s performance is nothing short of mesmerizing, with the film blending campy horror with psychological depth in a way that’s both tragic and terrifying.
