Bring Her Back

Our A24orror series comes to a very spooky conclusion with Bring Her Back, a disturbing descent into psychological dread from directors Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou (Talk To Me).

Bring Her Back tells the story of a brother and sister that uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother. With another great performance from Sally Hawkins and a number of horrifying sequences, it’ll have you thinking long after you’ve left the theater.

Brace yourself for a haunting you won’t forget.

I Walked with a Zombie

Our first Volunteer Of The Month pick comes from Ellie, who has chosen Jacques Toureur’s 1948 classic I Walked With A Zombie!

In this haunting reimagining of Jane Eyre by way of Caribbean folklore, Canadian nurse Betsy Connell (Frances Dee) travels to the West Indies island of Saint Sebastian to care for Jessica Holland, the mysteriously catatonic wife of a sugar plantation owner. As Betsy uncovers more about the family’s tragic past, she becomes entangled in an atmosphere thick with secrets, sorrow, and superstition.

Drawn toward the eerie pull of local voodoo rites and emotional tensions within the Holland household, Betsy’s journey becomes one of descent—into both personal obsession and the island’s enigmatic spiritual world. What emerges isn’t just a horror tale, but a ghostly meditation on colonialism, love, and the things that refuse to die.

School of Rock

When down-and-out guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is kicked out of his band and on the brink of eviction, he hatches a desperate plan: pose as his roommate and take a job as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Totally unqualified but totally undeterred, Dewey discovers his fifth-grade students are musical prodigies—and decides to secretly transform them into…the School Of Rock!

What starts as a scam turns into a mission, as Dewey teaches the kids not just how to shred, but how to channel their frustrations, find their confidence, and challenge the rigid world around them. With the Battle of the Bands as their target, School of Rock becomes a high-decibel anthem to self-expression.

Directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise) and written by Mike White of White Lotus fame, School of Rock strikes a perfect chord between anarchic comedy and heartwarming sincerity. Jack Black’s performance is a full-force, career-defining blend of physical comedy, genuine musicality, and chaotic charisma.
