The Mastermind: Film Club Members Only Preview Screening

Frida Cinema Members are invited to a special early screening of American auteur Kelly Reichhardt’s (First Cow, Certain Women, Wendy & Lucy) newest film: The Mastermind! Starring Josh O’Connor and Alana Haim, is Reichardt’s detour into the crime/heist genre, told only the way that she can.

In a sedate corner of Massachusetts circa 1970, an unemployed carpenter turned amateur art thief plans his first big heist. When things go haywire, his life unravels.

The Mastermind is being hailed as one of Reichardt’s boldest gambits. With a standout central performance by Josh O’Connor and a director pushing her signature minimalism into new terrain, it’s one of our most anticipated releases of 2025.

Dark City: Director's Cut: Presented By Flickrhappy

From visionary director Alex Proyas (The Crow), Dark City is a dazzling, mind-bending journey into a world where memory, identity, and reality itself are manipulated by unseen forces. Flickrhappy is proud to present the Director’s Cut of the film, restoring Proyas’ original vision in its most complete and immersive form.

Dark City follows John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell), a man who awakens in a strange city with no memory, hunted for a crime he cannot recall. As he pieces together the mystery of who he is, he discovers a truth stranger than he could imagine. With stunning visuals and haunting performances by Jennifer Connelly, Kiefer Sutherland, and William Hurt, Dark City is a surreal fusion of neo-noir mystery, dystopian thriller, visionary sci-fi, and so much more.

Celebrated upon release, Dark City won and was nominated for multiple awards, was screened out of competition at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, and earned lasting acclaim from critics and cinephiles alike. The legendary Roger Ebert named it the best film of 1998 and later enshrined it on his prestigious Great Movies list, hailing it as a masterpiece of modern science fiction, and comparing its influence to classics like Metropolis and Blade Runner.

Opera

The curtain falls on our Dario Argento restrospective with a scream. For the final act, we present Opera—a film that distills all of the maestro’s obsessions into one glorious, nightmarish aria.

A young opera singer, thrust into the spotlight during a cursed production of Macbeth, finds herself stalked by a sadistic killer who forces her to watch as her friends die in increasingly elaborate set pieces. What follows is Argento’s most technically virtuosic and perversely beautiful film, where horror and high art bleed into one another—sometimes literally.

Featuring infamous sequences involving needles taped beneath the eyes, flocks of vengeful ravens, and a thunderous metal-infused score, Opera is both a love letter to cinema and a howl of rage from a filmmaker pushing the Giallo form to its breaking point. As the camera swoops, the bodies fall, and the aria rises, Opera reminds us: no one stages death like Dario Argento.
