Erupcja

Director Pete Ohs new relationship drama Erupcja is coming to The Frida Cinema, starring big screen icon Charli XCX!

While on vacation in Poland, Bethany (Charli) breaks away from a romantic itinerary planned by her doting boyfriend, Rob (Will Madden), fearing that a marriage proposal is imminent. Reuniting instead with an old friend, Nel, the two women rekindle a uniquely combustible chemistry over the course of a few days in a chaste but burning trust predicated on sapphic synchronicity and a mutual penchant for poetry.

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, Erupcja hits our screen on May 15th. Ohs co-wrote the script with all of the movie’s lead actors, lending the film to a very untraditional and exciting approach.

Allegro Non Troppo

Our friends at GKIDS are presenting a brand new 4K restoration of the fantastic Italian sendup of Fantastia, Allegro Non Troppo!

An enterprising producer believes he has hit upon a winning concept: a program of original animated shorts set to classical music. Undeterred by warnings that this has already been done by an American named ‘Prisney,’ he rallies an orchestra of geriatric women, a bullish conductor, and an animator that he keeps locked in the dungeon. What could go wrong?

From evolution gone haywire to a lonely cat navigating a decaying world, Allegro Non Troppo swings between absurd comedy and quiet melancholy, all wrapped in inventive, boundary-pushing animation.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Laugh. Cry. Share the pants.

Our Page To Screen series is back to present a 20th anniversary screening of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants!

Four best friends (Tibby, Lena, Carmen & Bridget) buy a mysterious pair of pants that fits each of them, despite their differing sizes, and makes whoever wears them feel fabulous. When faced with the prospect of spending their first summer apart, the pals decide they’ll swap the pants so that each girl in turn can enjoy the magic.

Adapted from Ann Brashares’s bestselling novels, the film became a standout of mid-2000s teen cinema by centering female friendship as the main event instead of the subplot. Starring Blake Lively, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel, the story uses a simple magical premise to explore body image and growing up.

Junebug

Join us as we say goodbye (for now) to our beloved volunteer Hiroki as we present one of his favorite films, Junebug, on the big screen!

On the way to meet with an independent artist in the South, newlywed art dealer Madeleine is convinced by her husband, George, that they should stop to meet his family in North Carolina. Madeleine’s affluent lifestyle clashes with the family, but she befriends George’s wide-eyed and pregnant sister-in-law, Ashley, who is nearing her due date. Through the family, Madeleine gains greater insight into George’s character.

Widely seen as the breakout performance for Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams, Junebug is a funny and quietly devastating indie gem that perfectly encapsulates our bittersweet goodbye to a Frida Cinema legend. We’ll miss you, Hiroki!
