Fatherland

From acclaimed filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski (Ida, Cold War) comes Fatherland, a striking new black-and-white portrait of postwar Germany, starring Sandra Hüller and Hanns Zischler.

In the summer of 1949, Nobel Prize-winning author Thomas Mann returns to Germany after years of exile, embarking on a road trip with his daughter Erika across a country split between East and West. As they travel from American-occupied Frankfurt to Soviet-controlled Weimar, old wounds resurface and difficult questions emerge about national identity, artistic responsibility, and what it means to return home when the place you remember no longer exists.

With Pawlikowski’s signature visual precision and Hüller’s quietly commanding performance, Fatherland transforms a journey across a fractured nation into an intimate reckoning of guilt and the complicated bonds between parents and children. A true standout at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Pawlikowski once again finds extraordinary emotional weight in what remains unsaid.

Alien + Aliens

Two films. One nightmare. We’re bring the theatrical cut of Alien and the Director’s Cut of Aliens to The Frida Cinema for a double feature celebrating two of the greatest sci-fi films ever made!

First, Ridley Scott’s Alien sends warrant officer Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the crew of the Nostromo into a fight for survival against the perfect killing machine. Then, after a ten minute intermission, James Cameron’s Aliens brings Ripley back for a return trip to LV-426, where an entire colony has gone silent…and there’s a whole lot more than one Xenomorph waiting for them.

This very special pairing comes at the tail-end of celebrating the 40th anniversary of Aliens and also doubling as a tribute to the late, great Tom Skerritt!

The Devils: Director's Cut

After 55 years…The Devils are finally unleashed!

Censored. Controversial. Practically impossible to see in its intended form. Now, Ken Russell’s The Devils is back. And this time, it’s in a brand new 4K restoration from the original camera negative, referencing the edit he privately constructed in 2004.

Based on the infamous true story of 17th-century French priest Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed), The Devils follows a charismatic priest whose defiance of church and state makes him the target of a political conspiracy. When a sexually repressed nun (Vanessa Redgrave) accuses Grandier of witchcraft, an entire convent becomes consumed by an eruption of violence that threatens to tear the town apart.

This 1971 masterpiece is one of the most audacious films ever made and became one of the most notoriously censored films in British cinema. Don’t miss this extremely rare treat on the big screen!
