Allegro Non Troppo

Our friends at GKIDS are presenting a brand new 4K restoration of the fantastic Italian sendup of Fantastia, Allegro Non Troppo!

An enterprising producer believes he has hit upon a winning concept: a program of original animated shorts set to classical music. Undeterred by warnings that this has already been done by an American named ‘Prisney,’ he rallies an orchestra of geriatric women, a bullish conductor, and an animator that he keeps locked in the dungeon. What could go wrong?

From evolution gone haywire to a lonely cat navigating a decaying world, Allegro Non Troppo swings between absurd comedy and quiet melancholy, all wrapped in inventive, boundary-pushing animation.

Erupcja

Director Pete Ohs new relationship drama Erupcja is coming to The Frida Cinema, starring big screen icon Charli XCX!

While on vacation in Poland, Bethany (Charli) breaks away from a romantic itinerary planned by her doting boyfriend, Rob (Will Madden), fearing that a marriage proposal is imminent. Reuniting instead with an old friend, Nel, the two women rekindle a uniquely combustible chemistry over the course of a few days in a chaste but burning trust predicated on sapphic synchronicity and a mutual penchant for poetry.

After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, Erupcja hits our screen on May 15th. Ohs co-wrote the script with all of the movie’s lead actors, lending the film to a very untraditional and exciting approach.

Rosemary's Baby: Presented by See It On 16mm

She’s having the baby. Whether she wants to or not.

Our friends at See It On 16mm are back to unspool a very special IB Technicolor print of the 1968 horror masterpiece Rosemary’s Baby!

One of the most elegant and deeply unsettling horror films ever made, Rosemary’s Baby is the definitive domestic nightmare. Based on Ira Levin’s bestselling novel, the film follows Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow), a young wife who moves into a storied New York apartment building with her ambitious husband Guy (John Cassavetes). But as strange neighbors grow intrusive and Rosemary’s pregnancy becomes increasingly terrifying, paranoia gives way to a far more sinister truth.

The unbearable slow-burn dread and suffocating portrait of gaslighting and control that Rosemary’s Baby presents keeps it as a landmark of psychological horror and must be seen on the big screen with an unsuspecting crowd. Now…say your prayers. Rosemary is expecting.

Three men. One fortune. And a whole lot of dust.

Celebrate 60 years of Sergio Leone’s sprawling Western epic The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly with a new 4K restoration!

The film follows the uneasy alliance between Blondie (Clint Eastwood), the ruthless Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef), and the volatile Tuco (Eli Wallach) as they race to uncover a buried cache of gold. As betrayals pile up and loyalties shift, there’s only one way to settle their differences…in one of cinema’s greatest final showdowns.

With its operatic scale  and iconic score by Ennio Morricone, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly redefined the Western, turning it into real spectacle and electrifying the hearts of filmgoers for decades past its initial release.
