The Color of Money, Martin Scorsese’s electrifying sequel to The Hustler, is coming back to The Frida Cinema in a brand new 4K restoration to celebrate its 40th anniversary!

Paul Newman (who won his long-awaited Oscar for this film) returns as “Fast” Eddie Felson, now a veteran pool player who spots raw talent in cocky young hustler Vincent, played by Tom Cruise, and decides to take him under his wing.

Boasting Scorsese’s kinetic direction and one of the coolest soundtracks of the ’80s, The Color of Money is a swaggering portrait of mentorship and the thrill of the game.

Hope, the wild new sci-fi epic from The Wailing director Na Hong-jin, is coming to The Frida Cinema!

In the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok and officer Sung-ae are called to investigate a mysterious creature wreaking havoc on the community. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.

Starring Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell, Hope is a sprawling, genre-bending monster movie that mixes Korean thriller intensity with wild sci-fi spectacle. The film premiered in Competition at Cannes, where it received a six-minute standing ovation, and has already been hailed for its ferocious action and audacious filmmaking.

Ken Russell season continues at The Frida, as we are presenting a late night 0ne-off of The Lair of the White Worm on September 18th! 

This deliriously unhinged adaptation of Bram Stoker’s final novel follows a young archaeologist who uncovers the skull of a mythical serpent. Of course, it awakens an ancient evil and its seductive priestess, Lady Sylvia Marsh. That old story! 

Starring Amanda Donohoe, Hugh Grant, Peter Capaldi, Catherine Oxenberg, and Sammi Davis, The Lair of the White Worm is Ken Russell at his most gloriously deranged, and that’s really saying something!
