The Exorcist

The Exorcist is the next film up in our Art House of Horrors: Presented by MUBI series!

When young Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) begins exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior, her desperate mother Chris (Ellen Burstyn) turns to doctors, psychiatrists, and finally the Catholic Church for answers. As Father Karras (Jason Miller) struggles with his own crisis of faith, he and Father Merrin (Max von Sydow) confront an ancient evil in one of the most terrifying battles between good and evil ever committed to film.

William Friedkin’s 1973 masterpiece shattered the boundaries of mainstream horror, turning a story of demonic possession into a deeply unsettling drama about many things, but mostly…the nature of evil. From its unnerving sound design and groundbreaking makeup effects to unforgettable performances from its extraordinary cast, The Exorcist became a cultural phenomenon and remains one of the defining horror films of the 20th century.

Please note: we will be screening a 4K restoration of the 122 minute Theatrical Cut of the film!

The Haunting: Presented by Black Raven Marketplace

Our Classic Movie Nights series is entering the halls of Hill House with the terrifying 1963 version of The Haunting!

Dr. John Markway assembles a small group of guests to investigate the notoriously haunted Hill House, a sprawling mansion with a dark history of death and tragedy. Among them is Eleanor Vance, a shy and emotionally fragile woman who soon finds herself increasingly convinced that the house has chosen her as its next victim.

Directed by Robert Wise, The Haunting is widely regarded as one of the greatest haunted house films ever made, creating terror almost entirely through suggestion and atmosphere rather than explicit horror. With its disorienting camera work and unsettling sound design, the movie has survived as one of the most genuinely spooky movies ever made!

Please make sure to get to this showtime early, as our beloved Marketing Director, Bekah, will be doing a pre-screening presentation on the film!

Mauvais Sang

Love that burns fast but lasts forever.

Our Heist Hallucinations pick for November is Leos Carax’s 1986 exquisitely stylized sophomore feature, Mauvais Sang!

Two aging crooks are given two weeks to repay a debt to a woman named The American. They recruit their recently deceased partner’s son to help them break into a laboratory and steal the vaccine against STBO, a sexually transmitted disease that is sweeping the country. It’s spread by having sex without emotional involvement, and most of its victims are teenagers who make love out of curiosity rather than commitment.

A dazzling genre-mash of neo-noir, science fiction, crime, and doomed romance that’s anchored by unforgettable performances from Denis Lavant, Juliette Binoche, and Michel Piccoli, Mauvais Sang announced Carax as one of the most audacious voices of the French cinema of the 1980s.
